I’m looking forward to spending some time chatting with you about you. I love people. I love to learn about personalities and cultural backgrounds. I want to learn what you do for a living, your day to day activities, and how all of that affects your life. I want a meeting with your epigenetics. I’m fascinated by the fact that who we are is not only because of the genes our parents gave us but also because of the environment in which our grandparents lived. I want to learn more about you so I can assist you in your well-being journey.
Practice and Experience:
My love for high-level customer service and problem-solving stemmed from my time working at a Fortune 500 company in the Hotel & Hospitality Industry. I started as a housekeeper and worked my way to a first-level manager position through dedication, attention to detail, and emphasizing the aspects of my job that focused on human connection. Due to a growing family and my need for flexibility, I made the transition to a career in massage therapy in 2007.
I've worked on and in my private practice Trinity Massage Haven LLC as a sole proprietress since shortly after my graduation from massage therapy school. Before being self-employed I worked at three spas and three chiropractors’ offices. My focus is pain management, with an emphasis on prenatal massage and humans affected by cancer. My toolbox consists of a variety of modalities and fun gadgets.
I had the honor of working at Abramson Cancer Center in Philadelphia for one full year in 2015 as a Research Assistant. I was one of 3 amazing Oncology Massage Therapists who offered massages to women and men affected by breast cancer while receiving their chemotherapy treatment. The research was published, and yes, massage made a huge difference in mood and aided in pain management. Check it out here
I came from a culture that strongly supports trade schools. Because I was born into a family of entrepreneurs and tradespeople, both working with my hands and self-employment were inevitable.
In 2007 I completed a 750 hr Massage & Bodywork Technology Program. Shortly afterward, I obtained my licenses through the State Board of Massage Therapy of Pennsylvania.
I started taking continuing education classes before PA became a licensed state for massage therapy. I don't always get CE credits, but I enjoy learning what I need to know to be more effective in my profession and a better businesswoman. I am constantly learning new information and concepts as massage therapy research evolves. I have over 500 hours of continuing education.
I'm also an Integrative Nutrition Coach and sometimes use these coaching skills in my client sessions. Fun Ellie Fact! My primary education in holistic health was passed down from both my grandmothers who shared generations of home health care remedies and massage techniques from both Indo and Afro Caribbean cultures.
Presently I’m a member of the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA), Associated Bodywork and Massage Professinals (ABMP), Society for Oncology Massage (S4OM), and Professional Association for Black Bodyworkers (PABW).
Other professional groups, I have had the honor of being a part of and still nurture relationships with Fort Washington BNI, National Association Professional Women (NAPW), Women Referral Network (WRN), Women of Willow Grove (WOW), and Power Match (PM). I am a social butterfly.
Other Fun Facts
Have you heard of The Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, an island in the Caribbean? Well, I was born and raised there. I'm a mom of three (20, 14 & 12) and married for 21 years. I know I don't look old enough to have this level of life experience. I speak four different dialects of English. Yeah, it's a thing.
I love all things shiny and glitter as well as personal development books. Food is my love language, so cooking comes very easy for me. I love gardening and pilates. I'm classy, sassy, and a lot bad-assy!
My practice is warm and relaxing, but also a simply beautiful space that will leave you feeling like you've escaped and hit the pause button on life.
I offer highly specialized, evidence-based, you-centered treatments. I'm a natural comedian and natural storyteller. You will laugh at some point in our time together. It's how I encourage your body to improve your mood and reduce your pain.
Thank you for being here! I can't wait to meet you!
Yours in Health,
